My name is Connor Adams. I am 18 years old. I am 5”9’ and 135lbs. I live outside of Dallas, in a town called Flower Mound. I have lived in Flower Mound for approximately 15 years. I was born in Minnesota and then immediately moved to Florida. I have four brothers; 3 older, Dusten, Tyler, Jeff and one younger, Chase. I loved to play baseball and football as a kid. I had dreams and goals to go Pro in Baseball.
My dreams and goals changed once I hit the 5th grade. Recess in elementary school was very boring, so I didn’t play. I ran. I was like Forrest Gump, “I just kept on running”. And from that day on, I found my niche and my passion. All I did was think, breathe, and DO running, and now since I am a junior in high school, I don’t just think and breathe it; I just DO it. Middle school cross country and track was short and easy. I was a district champ in 7th and 8th grade for cross country and track.
Once I hit high school, I was so excited to do summer training with the Varsity runners even though I was only 13 years old. I got dropped immediately from the pack that summer, but I never gave up and worked hard, and that has paid off in the long run. As a freshman I had an undefeated regular track season on JV for the 1600 and 3200. I was the JV District Champ for the 3200m, but I did lose the 1600m to my teammate in the final 50 meters. In cross country I got 10th in JV for district and was the #1 on my JV team. Also that year, I was a regional and state alternate which was fun and exposed me to the future. We got 3rd as a team at Regionals and got 4th at the state finals.
The following year, 2007-2008. I moved up to varsity after a very intense summer workout. We practiced as a team six days a week and logged hundreds of individual miles that summer. I made my way up the ladder and became number 2 on my team; behind Curtis Patton. Curtis and I ran together all the time and were partners throughout the season. In 2007-8 I didn’t go undefeated, but I did have one heck of a track and cross country season. I went ALL- District for Cross Country and Track placing 9th at the District 6-5A CC meet, 2nd in the 3200m and 3rd in the 1600m at the District 6-5A meet. I finished 38th at the Region I finals in cross running with a time of 16:24. In spring 2008, I placed 5th in the mile at the region I finals with a time of 4:30. The 3200 at regionals was not my best race, but it was a learning experience for me. In the mile I qualified 4th in my region for the Congress Avenue Mile (an invitation only event of the the top 48 high school milers in the state of Texas); I finished 23rd.
Currently, I am 2nd fastest in the history of Flower Mound High School for the 3200m; the 2nd fastest 800m time of 1:54.11 and the school record holder in the 1600m with a 4:11.64 and the number 1 fastest overall CC runner ever at FMHS. See my race results.
I have very high goals. I want to run at an NCAA Division-1 college or university and have signed to run at the University of Miami starting in the fall of 2010. I plan to major in sports marketing with a minor in exercise and sports sciences. I would love to be a sports agent when I grow up. My short term goals are to win the state championship in the 1600m which i accomplished in May 2010 with a time of 4:12.12. A 4:00 minute mile is my biggest goal before I graduate high school. A sub 9 minute 2 mile, and 15:10 5k. Finally, I want to participate in the Olympics in 2012 in London or the 2016 Olympics in Rio. I achieved another goal when I won the Congress Avenue Mile in austin, TX in May 2010 beating the top 47 high school milers in the state with a time of 4:07.
On weekends I participate in many 5k runs and belong to the Dallas Running Club and the North Texas Striders to get more exposure to running with all age groups in both 5ks and half marathons. I think my favorite race so far has to be the Disneyland 5k and half marathon. That course is where I set my current PR of 1:13:51. Running is my passion and I enjoy it. Running has taken me to many great places so far and there are many more to follow. Stay tuned.
